Request for Comment: Kitties
Seriously. What type of cat should I adopt?
[currently leaning toward either a Ragdoll or an Oriental Shorthair, but am very much open to suggestions]
[Update: Throw the Egyptian Mau onto that list as well, assuming I can actually track one down]

I’ve always wanted an abyssinian, though Russian Blues are cool too, but far from my price ranges.
We did however just get a Rat Terrier puppy, about 8 weeks old now and he is blending in well with the family after the loss of our 8 year old cat.
I’ve had both of those types, abyssinians are a lot of fun and they love to play in water, russian blues are beautiful but they tend towards obesity.
There are so many kitties that need a forever home, adopt and save a life!
Bengals are gorgeous as well!
One that purrrrs is all that matters…
Remembering back to my teens and the days when Oscar was part of the house. I would suggest a basic domestic variety. He seemed to all the finer qualities of a good cat. Oscar like most cats, slept most of the day and was out on the town all night. On those nights when he would come home early, he would always find a way to comfort his owners and himself.
I think, if I were you, I would adopt something from a shelter. Pick a shelter, visit the animals, pick something that likes you, pay for it, take it home, feel good that the world has one less unwanted animal.
Ha, you know a cat post would finally make me leave a comment on your blog.
Anyway, all fine contenders you’ve got there, but I’m sure you know which kitty gets my vote! There must be a Siamese rescue out your way that would eventually get an OSH, if that’s what you decide (although of course a Siamese should be on your list too, if you do want a slinky, talkative, high-strung critter of your very own). If I ever get a sibling for Sid, I’d like to go the rescue route. I’m sure there are other breed-specific groups out there as well, although I’ve seen more for dogs than cats.
Or, spend a few days cruising petfinder.com and just see who you fall in love with! That’s how Sharon found Diego.
